Crawford to Kick Off Farm Tour MondayFirst District Farm Tour will give Crawford the chance to meet with producers and advocate for a five-year Farm Bill
On Monday, August 26, Congressman Rick Crawford (AR-1) will begin a tour of farms and agriculture-related interests in Arkansas’s First Congressional District. Agriculture is the top industry in Arkansas and Crawford is the state’s sole representative on the House Agriculture Committee. The Farm Tour will be a chance for Crawford to listen to farm families and advocate for a Farm Bill.
“This year’s Farm Tour represents an important opportunity for me to hear directly from the growers and producers in our state on their priorities for action in Washington. As Arkansas’ only representative on the House Agriculture Committee, I am continuing to use every avenue in my power to push for a Farm Bill that will meet the needs of farmers in Arkansas while remaining cost-effective and efficient. Agriculture is the backbone of our rural economy both in Arkansas and across the nation, and we must have a bill in place that supports production agriculture and provides the certainty for business decisions that our farmers need. I will continue working with the agricultural sector until this critical piece of legislation is finished.” Crawford is continuing to exhaust every option possible to get a Farm Bill signed into law. “While I much preferred the bipartisan Committee-passed version of the Farm Bill that failed on the House floor earlier this summer, I have continued to act in good faith with Chairman Lucas in order to keep the ball moving forward on this legislation. I am continuing to educate my colleagues on the critical importance of rural America to the sustainability and food security of our nation, and look forward to hitting the ground running on this legislation when I return to Washington. This is too important an issue for Arkansas to be left unfinished, and I will do everything in my power to ensure we get to conference with the Senate to work out our differences on a piece of legislation that is workable and cost-effective for our farmers.” Congressman Rick Crawford Farm Tour Schedule Monday, August 26, 2013 Meeting with Growers in Marion Tuesday, August 27, 2013 Attend Annual Meeting of Ag Council of Arkansas in Stuttgart Lunch with Stuttgart Rotary Club Meeting with Stratton Seed in Stuttgart Meet and Greet with Farmers in Wheatley Wednesday, August 28, 2013 Discussions with Community Leaders in Paragould Meet and Greet with Farmers in Paragould Ag Business Leaders Dinner in Jonesboro Thursday, August 29, 2013 Bayou Meto Executive Board Meeting in Lonoke Grand Prairie Executive Board Meeting in Hazen Tyson Hatchery Tour in Star City Friday, August 30, 2013 Visit Ash Flat Livestock Auction Visit Turkey Farm in Norfolk Livestock Advisory Council Meeting in Melbourne Members of the media are invited to all stops on Crawford’s Farm Tour.
