This week I was selected to be the ranking member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Rail Subcommittee. I am honored to lead the Republican members of the subcommittee for the next two years.
Our freight rail system is the envy of the world. Our country’s infrastructure system faces many tough challenges, but our rail system is one that works. It plays a crucial role in facilitating Arkansas's agriculture and industry, and is an industry in and of itself with several rail car manufacturing facilities in Arkansas's First District.
I look forward to working with Ranking Member Graves, Chairman DeFazio, and the rest of the T&I Committee to preserve and improve the best rail system in the world and to address the safe transportation of hazardous materials and products by pipeline.
FAQ (What folks have been calling/texting my office about this week)
Q: Where do you stand with the border wall funding?
A: Securing our borders provides an unparalleled return on investment in terms of national security and we cannot have true immigration reform without a border wall. If we continue to grant amnesty and even citizenship to large groups of people without first securing our borders then we will continue to have this issue every several years. It is unfortunate that this issue has reached the boiling point and has caused a partial government shutdown but now is the time for my colleagues to come to the table and get the job done.

But Rep. Rick Crawford of Jonesboro stood out for expliciting criticism of King. He said he might support additional disciplinary action. And he gave this statement to Lockwood:
"My colleague Steve King has a history of making controversial comments, but this time, he went too far and made comments that I believe were ignorant and indefensible."
"My colleague Steve King has a history of making controversial comments, but this time, he went too far and made comments that I believe were ignorant and indefensible," Crawford added. "I fully support the actions of House Republican leadership and will weigh carefully any future votes or actions that may come up before the House that pertain to his comments."
King's political fate, ultimately, "lies with the voters in his district and whether or not they believe he is fit to be their elected member of congress," Crawford added.

Legislation mandating electronic verification stalled in the House last year. Co-sponsored by U.S. Reps. French Hill, Rick Crawford and Bruce Westerman, it also would've created a new agriculture guest worker program. U.S. Rep. Steve Womack also backs electronic verification, his spokesman said. The four representatives are Republicans from Arkansas.
