Rep. Crawford Responds to SCOTUS Overturning of Roe v. Wade

6/24/2022

Washington  Today, in its long-awaited decision in Dobbs v. Jackson, the U.S. Supreme Court overruled Roe v. Wade: “The Constitution does not confer a right to abortion; Roe and Casey are overruled; and the authority to regulate abortion is returned to the people and their elected representatives,” Justice Samuel Alito wrote for the majority.

“I applaud this historic ruling that will reestablish a proper reading of our Constitution and allow Arkansas’ democratically-approved pro-life law to come into effect,” said Representative Rick Crawford (AR-01). “We all owe a debt of gratitude to the Justices, who have been steadfast in their work despite the unprecedented threats directed against them and their families by pro-abortion extremists. These disgraceful attempts at intimidation directly endanger our constitution and system of government, which makes Attorney General Merrick Garland’s indifference to protecting the Justices all the more outrageous.”

He added: “Lives will be saved because of the Court’s decision today. But the battle to win the hearts and minds of the American people continues. In every state we must defend the right to life for not-yet-born girls and boys, and fight to protect vulnerable mothers from the greed and callousness of the abortion industry.”

This ruling comes seven weeks after a draft opinion was leaked, sparking violent protests and threats against the Justices. As a result, Congress passed legislation to provide protection to Supreme Court Justices and their families.
