Reps. Crawford and Keller Introduce Resolution to Recognize National Correctional Officers Week
5/6/2022
Washington — Today, Representative Rick Crawford (AR-01) and Representative Fred Keller (PA-12) along with nine of their colleagues from the Bureau of Prisons Reform Caucus, introduced a House Resolution which would formally recognize May 1-7th, 2022, as National Correctional Officers Week. Correctional Officers are vital in providing a safe and secure environment for those carrying out a prison sentence, the upholding of public safety, the supporting of programs for treatment and rehabilitation, and the adherence to criminal justice.
“Our nation’s correctional officers are a crucial part of law enforcement and keeping folks safe. At a time where crime is rising and the defund the police movement is mobilized, I stand in support of all officers so they can properly enforce our laws and work to rehabilitate inmates. This week and every week, we honor their service to our communities,” said Rep. Crawford.
“The federal Bureau of Prisons faces many challenges, but correctional officers go to work every day and get the job done. As the Chair of the Congressional Bureau of Prisons Reform Caucus, I have had the opportunity to meet many of these men and women and each one exemplifies service and sacrifice. They are true heroes, and it is an honor to recognize National Correctional Officers Week and the important work correctional officers do to keep our federal prisons and communities safe,” said Rep. Keller.
