VIRTUAL CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION BRINGS TOGETHER US AND MEXICAN BUSINESSES

Congressman Rick Crawford of Arkansas led a first of its kind virtual delegation, hosted by the Council of the Americas, that brought some 40 representatives of American and Mexican companies together to discuss trade and investment between the two countries. Congressman Crawford was joined by Texas Congressmen Jodey Arrington and Vicente Gonzalez.

“I appreciate the efforts of the Council of the Americas to bring together my colleagues in Congress and representatives of the U.S. and Mexican business communities to discuss business and trade opportunities, especially as we continue to cope with the impact of COVID-19. Our two countries have a strong economic relationship, as exemplified by recent trade figures and the implementation of USMCA. It is important that we continue to explore ways to expand market access and supply chains that are mutually beneficial to our communities on both sides of the border,” said Congressman Crawford.

Congressman Arrington stated, “The U.S.- Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) was one of the biggest accomplishments of the 116th Congress. This historic trade deal has been a major win for our farmers, ranchers, and energy producers who feed, fuel, and clothe the world. I look forward to my discussion with the CODEL participants and continuing to improve and grow our mutually beneficial trade relationship with Mexico.”

“There are many challenges that Mexico and the United States must face together. The virtual delegation put together by the Council of Americas was an important medium to discuss the issues critical to South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley. Businesses on both side of the border depend on trade and tourism and are struggling as a result of the pandemic. It is vital to South Texas’ and Mexico’s economic interests that we continue to promote a business environment that is both safe and fair for workers and investors. I look forward to future discussions and improving the economic and diplomatic relationship between our two countries with the help of the incoming Biden administration.”, said Congressman Gonzalez.

Eric Farnsworth, Vice President of the Council highlighted the innovative nature of the effort. “We were pleased to host this virtual delegation to highlight the opportunities for trade and investment between Mexico and the United States. We are grateful for the leadership of Congressmen Crawford, Arrington and Gonzalez in paving the way for this type of virtual engagement, and plan to build on this success.”
