Academy Information

An appointment to the Service Academies is based on a desire by the candidate to devote a lifetime of military service and implies recognition by the appointee of an obligation to the government to devote him / herself to a military career. Are you interested in an appointment on that basis?

Additional Information

Please provide a link to a folder (i.e. Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.) that includes the following files: three letters of recommendation, SAT/ACT scores, high school transcript, and a photograph.

Three Letters of Recommendation: One letter should be written by your High School Principal or Guidance Counselor. The other letters may be written by teachers, coaches, scout masters, clergy or community leaders who can accurately comment on the applicant's character, abilities, and potential for success at an academy. Letters from teachers in the science or mathematics fields are impressive if the student excels in these areas.

Essay Questions

Answer the following questions in one document and provide the link. Please provide a link to a document (i.e. Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.) with your answer to the following questions:

Question 1: Why are you interested in attending a military service academy? What have you done to learn more about what a commitment to one of the academies entails?

Question 2: Give me an example of a time when you lead others in a project or goal?

Question 3: What are your educational plans if you do not receive an appointment to the academy you choose?

Video Entry

Create a video answering the questions listed below. At the beginning of the video please state your name, school, and in order, the academies to which you are requesting my nomination. Provide the YouTube or Vimeo link below.

Question 1: Why are you a good candidate for the service academies and why should I select you for a nomination over the other applicants? Elaborate on your achievements to support your answer.

Question 2: A service academy education prepares you for a career of service to your country. Explain in detail what career path you plan to take at the academy once you graduate. And where do you see yourself in 10-15 years?
