WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Rick Crawford (R-AR), joined by over 100 of his colleagues, co-led a letter to the leadership of the House Appropriations Committee requesting an H-2A visa guestworker wage freeze in upcoming appropriations legislation. This simple policy fix would lower input costs for the agricultural community and save family farms across the nation.

Last Congress, Crawford served on the House Agriculture Committee’s bipartisan Agricultural Labor Working Group, focused on addressing the workforce issues facing the nation’s agricultural producers. He was instrumental in the Agricultural Labor Working Group’s Final Report, which outlined various policy recommendations aimed at improving the H-2A program for the betterment of farmers, workers, and producers.

“A robust agriculture industry starts with a strong and healthy workforce. However, due to a labor shortage, American farmers are increasingly turning to overseas workers to fill positions on the farm. Unfortunately, the H-2A guestworker program has not been working for farmers because of the overly complex process and the skyrocketing federally mandated wage rate. A permanent solution is needed to address this pressing issue and support Arkansas’ farmers in ensuring national food security and feeding families across our nation,” said Crawford.
