Two local airports are among 23 across Arkansas sharing nearly $1.4 million in federal grants as part of the Coronavirus Relief and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act approved by Congress in December.

The funding is to help with offsetting costs and maintaining jobs as a result of COVID-19, according to the state’s congressional delegation.

Baxter County Airport at Midway is set to receive $23,000, while Melbourne Municipal – John E. Miller Field is the recipient of $13,000.

U.S. Senators John Boozman and Tom Cotton — along with Congressmen Rick Crawford, French Hill, Bruce Westerman and Steve Womack — announced the funding awards from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The members say, “Our local airports connect our communities, residents and businesses. These grants will ensure operations continue to run smoothly and help provide a safe environment for travelers and personnel. As we turn the corner on the pandemic, we look forward to seeing travel steadily increase.”
