Crawford to host Nutrition Summit in Jonesboro

Summit will give school administrators the chance to voice concerns over new nutrition standards for school lunches

Congressman Rick Crawford will bring school administrators and parents together in Jonesboro for a summit to discuss new nutrition standards for school lunches. The summit will be on Wednesday, October 17th at the Nettleton Performing Arts Center.

“We have all seen local and national news reports about new nutrition standards being imposed on public schools by the federal government. In the last few weeks I have spoken with a school administrators, teachers, coaches and parents who are concerned about new standards,” said Crawford. “We all want our kids to be healthy but sometimes when new rules are made there are unintended consequences. Our Nutrition Summit will be a chance for school administrators and parents to voice their concerns.”

Congressman Crawford and a bipartisan panel of state lawmakers will hear from school administrators and parents about how the new standards are affecting their school district. State Senator Johnny Key, (R-Mountain Home), State Senator Paul Bookout, (D-Jonesboro), State Representative Andrea Lea, (R-Russellville), and Jody Dickinson, (D-Newport) will join Congressman Crawford in hearing from school administrators and parents at the summit.

Congressman Crawford will deliver comments from school administrators and parents to the Secretary of Agriculture, Secretary of Education and President Obama so they know how the nutrition standards and affecting his constituents in Arkansas.

Nutrition Summit Background: The Nutrition Summit will be open to the public and all members of the press. Press members will be allowed into Nettleton Performing Arts Center at approximately 9:45 AM on the day of the summit and should have some form of press identification and be willing to check-in at the press table in the lobby. Press kits will be available to every member of the press who checks in at the press table. A listing of school administrators and parents will be provided in the coming days. The summit will operate just like Congressional hearings, and there will be no public comment. Written public comments will be accepted by Congressman Crawford’s office.

Congressman Rick Crawford represents Arkansas’ First Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives. In the Congress Crawford serves on the Agriculture and Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. Crawford and his wife Stacy live in Jonesboro with their two children.
