Washington – Representative Rick Crawford (AR-1) this week voted for and the House passed the No Sanctuary for Criminals Act (H.R. 3003) and Kate’s Law (H.R. 3004). Both bills address sanctuary cities, which are cities that refuse to follow federal immigration law and harbor illegal immigrants.

Following the passage of both, Representative Crawford released the following statement:

San Francisco and other cities that don’t cooperate with law enforcement do so at the peril of their own citizens. If those “sanctuary” cities want to continue receiving federal funding, then surely a condition of receiving that funding should be complying with federal law. Cities shouldn’t necessarily pick and choose which laws they like to enforce, particularly when their defiance puts American lives at risk.

H.R. 3003 cuts off certain federal grants for cities that have sanctuary policies, strengthens current laws aimed at preventing sanctuary cities, and mandates illegal immigrants arrested for drunk driving and other dangerous crimes are held by law enforcement during their removal proceedings.

H.R. 3004, which is named after Kathryn Steinle, stiffens penalties for deported felons who return to the Unites States.
