Crawford votes to send additional weapons and other military aid to Ukraine
5/11/2022
Washington — Representative Rick Crawford (AR-01) voted last night in support of a bill to send additional advanced weapons to Ukraine, as it battles Russia’s unprovoked invasion.
“Ukraine has courageously fought back against Russian aggression, weakening Russia’s military in ways that will set Russia back years in its future ability to threaten other nations,” Rep. Crawford said. “The weapons transfers approved in this bill will further degrade Russia’s military, and will send a clear signal to China that attempted conquests of democratic nations will be met with a forceful and sustained American response.”
In addition to the military funding, the bill also authorizes support of efforts to mitigate the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Ukraine and among our allies facing an influx of Ukrainian refugees. The bill does not authorize putting American boots on the ground to wage war against Russia.
“Providing arms to an ally that is fighting for its freedom is a valuable investment that promotes democracy and the rule of law, while keeping American soldiers out of harm’s way,” Rep. Crawford added.
The draft bill originally proposed by the House majority included billions of dollars in extraneous funding for the International Monetary Fund, as well as several immigration provisions that would increase immigration without taking steps to enforce current immigration laws, or to secure the border. The GOP was able to force Democrats to eliminate most of the suspect funding.
