John Paul Hammerschmidt Dies at 92
On Wednesday, April 1, the former Representative John Paul Hammerschmidt Harrison died at age 92 in Springdale. Before retiring in 1993, Hammerschmidt served the 3rd Congressional District for 26 years as the first Arkansan to represent Arkansas in Washington since Reconstruction.
Congressman Crawford said of his passing, “Today Arkansas lost one of its most venerable and distinguished sons. John Paul Hammerschmidt was truly a visionary champion for Arkansas’ conservative values in Congress, but we will all remember him for his humble dedication to country and to our state. His leadership inspired new generations of Arkansans, while his record of service is now the gold standard for the Arkansas delegation.”
