Rep. Crawford Applauds OMB’s Decision on MSA designation

7/14/2021

Washington  Today, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) announced modest revisions to their Standards for Delineating Core Based Statistical Areas. However, OMB announced the Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population threshold would remain unchanged. This decision comes after Representative Crawford and several other Members of Congress sent a letter requesting that OMB doesn’t follow through with their proposal of increasing the minimum population of MSA from 50,000 people to 100,000 people.

“MSA designation has been a vital tool in keeping rural communities afloat during economic hardships. Changes like the one initially suggested would’ve furthered the divide between urban and rural America. I’m pleased that OMB saw the devastating impact their proposed changes to MSA requirements would have and decided to continue with the current stipulations,” said Rep. Crawford.
