Rep. Crawford Asks President Biden to Prioritize Areas Affected by Extreme Weather

2/25/2021

Washington – Rep. Rick Crawford (AR-01), joined by Rep. Tom Cole (OK-04) sent a letter to President Biden requesting that households, utility companies, small businesses, and agriculture producers adversely affected by the extreme winter weather receive priority for future COVID-19 relief funding. This letter is in response to the recent severe winter in the Midwestern and Southern United States, which resulted in unprecedented energy demands and rolling blackouts for millions of families.

“Millions of households spent days without any means by which to heat their homes, prepare and preserve food, and some even lost access to water,” wrote the Congressmen. “We share your goal in wanting to send targeted resources to the people most afflicted by the pandemic, and hope you share our desire to do the same for the families experiencing more distress due to this unprecedented weather event. We urge you to immediately prioritize any congressionally authorized direct assistance to our constituents who are suffering grave loss and will continue to experience hardship as they recover from this traumatic event. This should include individuals, utility providers, farmers and ranchers, and others other have been and will be hit financially due to an emergency completely out of their control.”

Full text of the letter can be found here.
