Rep. Crawford Introduces Legislation to Prevent Taxpayer Funded Payments to Illegal Immigrants

11/5/2021

Washington  Today, Congressman Rick Crawford (AR-01) introduced legislation to prevent payments from the federal Judgement Fund from going to immigrants who illegally crossed the southern border. The Ending Payments to Non-American Citizens Act responds to multiple reports that the Biden administration intends to pay individuals who were separated from their family at the southern border upwards of $450,000 each. While President Biden rebuked the idea, Justice Department officials and lawyers representing many of these illegal immigrant litigants have contradicted the President’s denouncement. Additionally, the President’s spokesperson said that he is “perfectly comfortable” making settlement payments to these individuals who broke our laws.

“This outrageous proposal is another example of the Biden Administration putting Americans last and incentivizing criminal behavior. Instead of dealing with the largest border crisis in American history, the President is determined to reward those who broke our nation’s laws. American taxpayers do not want their money used to subsidize an apology for Obama-era policies,” said Rep. Crawford.
