Rep. Crawford Supports Cuban People’s Fight Against Socialism
7/12/2021
Washington — This weekend, Cuban citizens took to the streets in protest to demand freedom, and for President Miguel Diaz-Canel to step down. Cuba has been suffering from economic turmoil which has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Many Cuban citizens have been experiencing food and power shortages as a result of the economic hardships created by over 60 years of living under a socialist/Marxist regime. These protestors were met with tear gas and several arrests all at the hands of the Cuban government.
“In my visits to Cuba I have seen firsthand how socialism takes a beautiful country and populates it with poverty and despair. It’s a bit ironic that the Cuban people are using the US flag as a symbol of democracy in their protests while progressives in Congress continue to peddle their socialist agenda and praise Fidel Castro. It’s time to accept that socialism doesn’t benefit the working class, it creates starvation and extinguishes all personal freedoms. I will always stand with those who are actively fighting for their freedom against oppressive governments,” said Rep. Crawford.
Representative Crawford represents Arkansas’s First District and has pursued multiple avenues during his time in Congress to advance agricultural trade with Cuba and its citizenry to, among other things, assist with food shortages there:
