Rep. Crawford Votes to Protect National Strategic Petroleum Reserve
1/27/2023
Washington, DC – Today, Representative Rick Crawford (AR-01) voted in favor of H.R. 21, The Strategic Production Response Act. The legislation would prevent further drawdowns of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) for non-emergency situations without a plan to replace oil depletions through domestic energy production.
The bill is in response to the Biden Administration’s recent domestic politics-driven decision to freeze federal land and offshore lease sales for oil and gas development, while releasing large amounts of oil from the SPR.
“We cannot allow our reserves to be abused in an effort to support political policies that tie the hands of American oil and gas producers and exacerbate the energy crisis,” said Crawford. “This legislation will preserve the SPR for its vital and central purpose—to provide the oil supplies Americans need during true emergencies. Having a healthy energy sector protects us from being at the mercy of other nations.”
