Rep. Crawford Votes to Stop Endless Funding to Ukraine

4/20/2024

Washington, D.C.  Congressman Rick Crawford (AR-01) issued the statement below concerning his vote today against an additional $60.8 billion aid bill to Ukraine, including $9 billion in economic assistance in the form of “forgivable loans.”

“While the entire Western world stands in support of Ukraine’s fight to expel Vladimir Putin’s Ukraine invasion force, I cannot in good faith vote to send billions of dollars in non-military financial aid to Ukraine to prop up its economy when Americans are struggling with rising costs at home.

“I voted in favor of the Cammack amendment that would have focused American taxpayer dollars on direct military aid for the fighting men and women in Ukraine and on replenishing American military stockpiles. Sadly, that amendment was defeated by my colleagues who support a blank check to Ukraine to fund its non-military programs. What’s more, this legislation wasn’t even entirely focused on Ukraine. It allows billions of dollars to be transferred to any country that ‘has been impacted’ by the war. We need to help Ukraine with lethal, military aid so that it can stop Russia in its tracks. Sending your tax dollars on a European vacation to pay for some other country’s government salaries or farm subsidies is unacceptable. As this conflict passes its two-year mark, we need to strategize how to give the Ukrainians the direct military aid they need so that they can bring this war to an end, rather than allowing it to continue,” said Rep. Crawford.
