As 2012 comes to a close, now is time to look toward 2013 and the challenges ahead. Some people make resolutions at the start of the New Year, some set goals. For my part, I see 5 key goals for the upcoming year:

In 2011, the House of Representatives launched the Plan for America's Job Creators, a pro-growth agenda aimed at removing government barriers to private-sector job creation. Since then the House has passed dozens of jobs bills, including several that the president has signed into law.
When I talk to families at home in Arkansas, they are always concerned about jobs. The House has voted numerous times in the past two years to create an environment that encourages job creation and ends economic uncertainty. Some key pieces of legislation include:

Since my election to Congress I have talked about the importance of passing a Farm Bill that would give farm families in Arkansas and across the country the security they need to continue producing the safest, most affordable and abundant supply of food on the planet. Unfortunately, election year politics have gotten in the way of enacting sound policies on which rural America depends. Some in Congress think that putting their electoral ambitions ahead of the needs of our farmers and ranchers will score political points.

Nothing kills jobs faster than a Washington regulation. Too often federal agencies impose rules without talking to the people who will be forced to live with them. This week the House of Representatives took action to reduce the regulations small businesses face. With the passage of the Red Tape Reduction and Small Business Job Creation Act, the House gave small business owners and job creators some relief from onerous regulations.

Today, Congressman Rick Crawford voted to reduce excessive red tape and other bureaucratic burdens that prevent small business owners from hiring new workers and growing the economy. The Red Tape Reduction and Small Business Job Creation Act (H.R. 4078) passed the House of Representatives today and now awaits action from the Senate.

Congressman Rick Crawford joined a bipartisan group of 62 House members urging House leaders to bring the Farm Bill (H.R. 6083) to a vote before August. The House Agriculture Committee passed the Farm Bill by a strong bipartisan vote of 35 to 11 on July 12th.

For the better part of the last year the House Agriculture Committee has worked in a bipartisan fashion to craft a fiscally responsible Farm Bill that will work for farm families across the country. This week, Democrats and Republicans on the Agriculture Committee joined together to pass the Farm Bill out of committee. At a time when many Americans have lost faith in the ability of Congress to accomplish great things, the House Agriculture Committee is an example of what can be done when partisan politics are put aside in favor of sound policy.

The Supreme Court's ruling this week does nothing to change the fact that President Obama's healthcare mandate is not working for Arkansas. For my part, I will continue pushing for a full legislative repeal of the President's healthcare law.

Unfortunately, the Senate Farm Bill passed today takes a ‘one-size-fits-all' approach to agricultural production, and applies a Midwest insurance risk-management model to the entirety of U.S. agriculture. The House Farm Bill must be fair to every region of the United States – not just a single region. Farming in the Arkansas Delta involves unique production methods. The Mid-South largely uses irrigation methods, which reduces production risk and yield variability.
