WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators John Boozman and Tom Cotton along with Congressman Rick Crawford (AR-1) today announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) awarded rural development grants to the communities of McCrory and Cotter for first responder vehicles and equipment. USDA has approved a loan for the city of Brinkley to make improvements to its existing wastewater treatment plant.

The World Trade Organization (WTO) ruled against the United States' Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) rule earlier today, a decision that was expected. U.S. meat labels, mandated since 2009, list where the animals are born, raised, and slaughtered. Both Canada and Mexico have argued that the labeling requirements unfairly target their cows and pigs by increasing the compliance cost for meatpackers with little payoff for consumers. This is the 4th time the WTO has ruled against the United States.

Congressman Rick Crawford (AR-01) today announced that he will take a new approach to facilitate the speedy completion of Interstate 555 from Jonesboro to Interstate 55. Congressman Crawford initiated a discussion with Alec Farmer, the newest member of the Arkansas Highway Commission, to identify the best way forward.

On Wednesday, April 1, the former Representative John Paul Hammerschmidt Harrison died at age 92 in Springdale. Before retiring in 1993, Hammerschmidt served the 3rd Congressional District for 26 years as the first Arkansan to represent Arkansas in Washington since Reconstruction.
