WASHINGTON – Legislation to recognize the civic contributions of Judge Jacob Trieber by renaming the Helena-West Helena Federal building in his honor heads to the president's desk for final approval after the House of Representatives unanimously supported the bill today. Trieber was the first Jewish Federal Judge and a long-time resident and community leader of Phillips County. The Senate unanimously approved the bill in August.

"We owe this honor to Judge Trieber who was a well-respected leader in Phillips County.

Washington, D.C. - Earlier this morning, the Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced their completion of the final "Waters of the US" rule, which regulates what rivers, streams, and wetlands are subject to federal oversight. Farmers, builders, and electric utilities, claiming that the language in the rule is too vague, have in the past opposed proposed versions of the rule.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators John Boozman and Tom Cotton along with Congressman Rick Crawford (AR-1) today announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) awarded rural development grants to the communities of McCrory and Cotter for first responder vehicles and equipment. USDA has approved a loan for the city of Brinkley to make improvements to its existing wastewater treatment plant.

The World Trade Organization (WTO) ruled against the United States' Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) rule earlier today, a decision that was expected. U.S. meat labels, mandated since 2009, list where the animals are born, raised, and slaughtered. Both Canada and Mexico have argued that the labeling requirements unfairly target their cows and pigs by increasing the compliance cost for meatpackers with little payoff for consumers. This is the 4th time the WTO has ruled against the United States.
