Today, Congressman Rick Crawford announced he is seeking applications for nomination to U.S. Service Academies. As a Member of Congress, Crawford is able to make nominations for the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

Unfortunately, election year politics have gotten in the way of enacting sound policies on which rural America depends."

Today, Congressman Rick Crawford joined a bipartisan group of House members in signing a discharge petition to force a House vote on the Farm Bill. If 218 House members sign the discharge petition, House leaders would be forced to allow a vote on the Farm Bill that passed the House Agriculture Committee on a bipartisan 35-11 vote.

U.S. Senators Mark Pryor and John Boozman, along with Congressmen Rick Crawford today announced the Arkansas International Airport in Blytheville will receive over $700,000 from the U.S. Department of Transportation for improvements to their facilities.

"The Blytheville Airport in my district provides the region with an important option for commerce and travel. The funds from the Department of Transportation will make the airport safer for years to come," Crawford said.

Today, Congressman Rick Crawford remembered Batesville native Sara Elizabeth Low in a speech before the House of Representatives. Low was a flight attendant on American Airlines Flight 11, the plane that hit the north tower of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

Last week Congressman Rick Crawford toured farms and agriculture related interests in Arkansas's First Congressional District. At each stop on the Farm Tour producers told Crawford they need a five year Farm Bill to forecast operation costs and provide certainty. Agriculture is the number one industry in Arkansas and Crawford is the state's only representative on the House Agriculture Committee. Crawford believes a strong Farm Bill is essential to growing Arkansas's rural economy.
