Congressman Rick Crawford and the Arkansas Small Business & Technology Development Center invite small businesses owners to a "Lunch and Learn" workshop on Monday, May 9, at 12 p.m. to find out more about contracting with the Federal government for disaster clean up. The workshop is at the Delta Center for Economic Development Building, located adjacent to the College of Business at Arkansas State University.

Congressman Rick Crawford (R-Ark.) released the following statement regarding last night's Federal disaster declaration by the President:

"Last night, President Obama issued a Federal disaster declaration for Arkansas. The declaration allows Federal funds to be used for assisting the clean up and rebuilding of communities in the First District and throughout Arkansas. I want to thank the President for his quick response to the Arkansas Delegation's request and I encourage all First District residents to contact my office if there is anything I can do to help them in this difficult time.

Congressman Rick Crawford (R-Ark.) today released the following statement regarding the severe weather currently hitting Arkansas.

"My thoughts and prayers go out to all Arkansans who are affected by the severe weather sweeping across our state. I am working closely with the Department of Emergency Management and the rest of the Arkansas delegation to ensure everyone receives the necessary assistance from the state and federal governments. Congressman Rick Crawford (R-Ark.) today voted for a short-term continuing resolution that will avert a government shutdown.

The continuing resolution acts as a bridge while details to fund the government through the current fiscal year are finalized. The long-term continuing resolution, expected to pass later next week, will cut $38.5 billion in federal spending, fund the troops for the remainder of the fiscal year, and officially ends the "Stimulus" spending spree.

Ninety House Republicans signed a letter calling on Senator Harry Reid (D-Nev.) to step down if he does not fulfill his responsibility as Majority Leader. The House of Representatives sent Senator Reid H.R. 1 46 days ago, yet he refuses to fund the government through Fiscal Year 2011.

The letter asks Senator Reid to reconsider his, "reckless, partisan strategy of shutting down the government," and says "the American people deserve responsive leadership from those who are elected to higher office."

Congressman Rick Crawford (R-AR) issued the following statement in reaction to the passing of the Continuing Resolution.

"This was the first step towards bringing fiscal discipline back to Washington and allowing the private sector to grow and create jobs for unemployed Americans," said Congressman Rick Crawford. "This week, the House passed legislation that will keep the government running and cut billions from the budget. We still have a long way to go but we are making great progress. I have complete faith this Congress will restore the economy and get America back to work."
